At this link you will find another school's information based on our 5th grade Language Arts materials. I have shown students how they can use the link to Spelling City to help them prepare for Spelling Tests. They just find the Unit that we are in and click on the Spelling City link. (This week we will be starting Unit 9: Storm Warriors.) 

Spellingcity.com is a great spelling and vocabulary online resource. This website makes studying your spelling words each week fun and easy.  Select Teach Me, Play A Game, or Test Me .  You may also print handwriting worksheets and word lists from this website.

Join us for the FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 KICKOFF

When:  Sundays, Sept. 21-Oct. 12, 4:00-5:00PM

Where:  East side Playground of Van Allen, 3 running different loops to run/walk

Who:  All students must be accompanied by a supervising adult.  Kids must have an accompanying adult to go on off campus running loops. Van Allen School will NOT be open (unlocked).

Family Track Club

 Family Track Club is starting up at Van Allen

This Fall, Van Allen school will sponsor a free Family Track Club for students and families.  Fall Family Track Club leads up to the Iowa City Run for the Schools ICCSD foundation fundraiser.

No registration is required to participate in the Van Allen Family Track Club – just bring the whole family and lace up your running (or walking) shoes to have fun, get active and interact with other Van Allen families.  Family Track Club is set to begin Sunday  September  21st and run through October 12^th  meeting on Sundays from 4-5pm each week.  We will meet on the East (K-2) side of the school.  Fall weather can mean rain – watch your email for cancels if the forecast is questionable. As a reminder, this is not a drop-off activity—all children need be accompanied by a supervising adult.

During Family Track Club there are three different run loops that participant can choose from, one on Van Allen school grounds and two loops that goes off school grounds (kids must have an adult accompanying them).  Music is played on the wireless speaker system and students will receive punch cards to help count each mile they run and students record their distance at the end of the night.  Participants do not need to run or walk the entire hour – play ground breaks are welcomed!  Students who participate will have their names read during morning school announcements the next day.
